The Miracle - the Cock and Hen

The legend tells a story about a pilgrim German family with a eighteen year old son. The spanish girl in the inn fell in love with him, but he did not return her feelings. So in revenge she put a silver cup in his luggage and reported it stolen. The punishment for this crime was death by hanging. When his parents departed for Santiago de Compostela, they hear the voice of their son, announcing that Santo Domingo de la Calzada has preserved his life. They went to the house of the Judge, he answered that " their son was about as alive as the roast cock and hen he was about to eat" At the moment the cock and the hen jumping at his plate and began to sing. Since then the famous lines have been said: " St Domingo de La Calzada, where the hen crows after being roasted".

So they have a live Hen and Cock in the Cathedral !
